HIP HOP IN SOUTH AFRICA - K'NAAN

knaan waving flag A few hours after the World Cup in South Africa start taking advantage of the morning to write and listen to good music, I found this video of K'Naan performing the official anthem for Coca Cola World, acoustic and live.
K'Naan Somali birth is one of the most important African rappers, hip-hop met when her father sent her records from New York (where he worked as a taxi driver) and soon discovered his love for this culture that taught him to do with other eyes what was happening in Africa in the early 80's. K'Naan saw about African poverty and wars.
While still a teenager migrated to America with his family and then to Canada, where he currently resides.
One of the things that Hip Hop is evidence that Africa should not lose quality melodic to say clever things to protest, to call attention to the real problems of ordinary people.
K'Naan is an activist and a social interest in the claims that in his country and throughout Africa. But above all is a great artist K'Naan.
Cheken video, appreciate its musical quality and then read the letter (I leave in English and Castilian) to see what I mean: melody, deep in the message, originality, harsh criticism, rhythm, poetry, Hip Hop.

Waving Flag - K'Naan

Waving Flag (Official Anthem of South Africa 2010)
When I get older, I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag

Born to a throne, stronger than Rome
But Violent prone, poor people zone
But it's my home, all I Have Known
Where I got grown, streets we would roam
But out of the darkness, I Came the farthest
Among the hardest survival
Learn from These Streets, it can be bleak
Except no defeat, surrender retreat

So we Struggling, fighting to eat and
We we'll be wondering when to free
So we patiently wait, For That fateful day
It's not far away, so for now we say

When I get older, I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And Then it goes back, and Then it goes back
And Then it goes back

So many wars, settling scores
Bringing us promises, leaving us poor
I Heard Them Say, love is the way
Love is the answer, that's what they say,
But look how They treat us, make us believers
Their battles we fight, Then They deceive us
Try to control us, They Could not hold us
Cause we just move forward like Buffalo Soldiers

But we Struggling, fighting to eat
And we wondering, when to we'll be free
So we patiently wait, For That faithful day
It's not far away, but for now we say

When I get older, I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And Then it goes back, and Then it goes back
And Then it goes back

When I get older, I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And Then it goes back, and Then it goes back
And Then it goes back

(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And everybody will be singing it
(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And you and I will be singing it
(Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh Ohhhh)
And we all will be singing it
(Ohhh Ohh Ohh Ohh)

When I get older, I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And Then it goes back, and Then it goes back
And Then it goes back

When I get older, I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
And Then it goes back, and Then it goes back
And Then it goes back

When I get older, when i get older
I will be stronger, just like a Waving Flag
Just like a Waving Flag, just like a Waving flag
Flag, flag, Just like a Waving Flag.

Waving Flag (in Spanish)
When I grow up, I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom just like a Waving Flag

When I grow up, I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom just like a Waving Flag
And then return, and then gets
And then return, and then again, oh

Born to a throne stronger than Rome
but violently subdued, poor people zone
But it is my home, all I know.

When I grow up, the streets take
But out of the darkness, I come from a remote location
I'm a tough survivor
Learn from these streets can be tough
No defeat, surrender retreat
So we struggling, fighting to eat and
we wonder when we will be free
So wait patiently for that day crucial
Not so far, so now we

When I grow up, I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom just like a Waving Flag
And then return, and then gets
And then return, and then again, oh

So many wars, crossing barriers
Bringing us promises, leaving us poor
I heard them say "love is the way"
"Love is the answer," that's what they say,
But look how they treat us make us believers
We fight their battles, then they deceive us
Try to control, but we may retain
Because we move as Buffalo Soldiers

So we struggling, fighting to eat and
we wonder when we will be free
So wait patiently for that day crucial
not far away, so now we

ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh
And everyone is singing
ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh
And everyone is singing
ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh

When I grow up, I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom just like a Waving Flag
As a Waving Flag, like a Waving Flag
Flag, flag, like a Waving Flag.
